XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) stands out in AC pipe insulation with distinct advantages over other foams. Its cross-linked structure enhances thermal resistance, providing superior heat retention compared to EPE (expanded polyethylene) or regular PE foam. This minimizes cold air loss in AC pipes more effectively, boosting energy efficiency—critical for reducing HVAC workload.
Durability is another edge: XLPE resists tearing, compression set, and aging better than EVA or polyurethane (PU) foam. It maintains structural integrity under temperature fluctuations (-50°C to 110°C), outperforming PU, which may degrade in high humidity, or EPE, which lacks long-term resilience.
Moisture resistance is superior too. XLPE’s closed-cell structure has lower water absorption than PU foam, preventing mold growth and corrosion on AC pipes—unlike porous foams that trap moisture. Additionally, it offers better fire retardancy (often meeting UL94 V0 standards) compared to non-treated EPE or PE, enhancing safety in AC systems.
